Big Bear Lake the Right Place for Skiing/Snowboarding

(Big Bear Lake, CA – December 30, 2011) – While many parts of the country bemoan the lack of snow for winter sports, Big Bear Lake, CA is experiencing outstanding conditions.  Starting with snowfalls in November, Big Bear Lake, home to Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, has received over three feet of snow in the month of December, compared to an average monthly snowfall of 8.72 inches.  And while three feet may not be a record for snow country, it’s far above what other western mountains have experienced, including all of the California resorts.

“Unique weather patterns have brought us some surprising natural snowfalls,” says Big Bear Mountain Resorts Vice President of Marketing Chris Riddle. “This year, we’ve had some inside slider storms that have been centered right over Big Bear, by-passing the Sierras and dropping snow right where we want it.”

The coup de gras for Big Bear Mountain Resorts is their state-of-the-art snowmaking capabilities on all runs.  With abnormally cold temperatures during the first three weeks of December, nightly high volume snowmaking has added to the natural base to make excellent skiing and boarding conditions.  Both mountains are completely open, and the current lull in storms means an easy drive to the snow on all mountain roads.

(Big Bear Lake, Calif. – Feb. 2, 2011) – With excellent mid-winter conditions and blue skies, Big Bear Mountain Resorts invites couples to spend a day on the slopes this Valentine’s Day and take advantage of its Valentine’s Day special offering a FREE lunch for two on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, a value of $27.

“It’s beautiful weather right now, we’ve been making snow every night and the mid-winter conditions are excellent. It’s the perfect time to get out of town and plan a day trip or a romantic weekend getaway on the slopes,” said Chris Riddle, director of marketing for Big Bear Mountain Resorts. “We’ve seen many engagements on the slopes over the years. What could be more romantic than a picturesque proposal at 8,200 feet? It’s always a lot of fun and our team really enjoys assisting in any way we can to help our guests create the perfect proposal.”
Recently, 31-year-old San Diegan Matt Holt proposed to his girlfriend Michelle at Snow Summit. Both avid snowboarders, Holt worked with the BBMR team on a creative proposal that used large, hand-painted signs placed along the base of the chair lift that spelled out “will you marry me, Michelle?” When the couple rode the lift to the top of the mountain, they looked down on the large signs that were staggered throughout the lift’s ascent.
“Michelle was shocked,” said Holt. “She didn’t think I’d be proposing on that trip and that we were just up there to celebrate my birthday. The signs were placed by ski patrol so that the “Michelle” sign was near the end of the signs and they were placed far apart so she wasn’t sure the signs were even for her until the end when she saw her name. Everyone I worked with leading up to the big day was supportive. They went out of their way to make the experience unforgettable. Coming off the lift right after seeing the proposal signs for the first time and having the Ski Patrol cheering and strangers coming off and congratulating us was really special.”
Guests looking for a romantic spot for a proposal, or just a nice lunch, this Valentine’s Day can head to Snow Summit’s View Haus restaurant, located at the top of the mountain via Chair 1, the East Mountain Express. The View Haus offers spectacular views of Big Bear Lake, spacious decks and a wide variety of upscale menu items, including pastas, salads, deli sandwiches, Mexican food, gourmet desserts and daily specials.

The Valentine’s Day special offers a FREE lunch for two when reserving two Valentine’s Day lift tickets online, a value of $27. The special is valid when booking two young adult or adult all-day tickets, must be used on Valentine’s Day and cannot be combined with any other offers. Guests must book online at least one day prior to Feb. 14 to reserve the special offer.

Guests are reminded to check out www.bigbearmountainresorts.com for the latest on events, lift ticket deals, weather and snow conditions and road information. There are still three ways to Big Bear, including Hwy 38 (through Redlands), Hwy 18 from Waterman through Lake Arrowhead and Hwy 18 (the back way through Lucerne Valley). All roads are currently open with no chains required. Hwy 330 is closed below Running Springs. Bear Mountain Team Rider Zak Hale Wins Paul Mitchell Progression Session at Copper Mountain Stop of 2011 Visa U.S. Halfpipe Grand Prix

(Big Bear Lake, CA – December 16, 2010) – Bringing his best tricks to the Colorado slopes, Bear Mountain Team Rider Zak Hale placed first over the weekend during the Paul Mitchell Progression Session. Held at Copper Mountain Resort, Colorado, Hale beat out top riders from around the country showcasing fun, off-the-wall tricks and his signature laid-back style to take home the first prize of $5,000.

The Paul Mitchell Progression Session is the popular series for developing athletes. This year’s event featured more than 15 riders in an evening jam session format, which marked the close of the Copper Mountain stop of the 2011 Visa U.S. Half-pipe Grand Prix.

Hale’s smooth and relaxed approach to riding started to garner attention at a young age, as he hit the slopes at Bear Mountain in his home town of Big Bear, Calif. A member of the Bear Mountain riding team since 2006, Hale recently traveled to the Monster Training Facility in Park City, Utah to hone his skills and is currently featured in the Transworld Photo Annual Best Park Shot.

“I’ve been snowboarding at Bear Mountain all my life and it’s been awesome. Southern California definitely has a more laid back vibe and I think it really gives me an advantage in these competitions,” said Hale. “This weekend was great. Of course winning is cool, but for me it’s just about having fun and snowboarding.”

“Our entire team at Big Bear Mountain Resorts congratulates Zak on his big win this weekend,” said Chris Riddle, Marketing Director for Big Bear Mountain Resorts. “Zak is a great example of what it means to have fun and not take yourself too seriously; his talent and passion for riding is inspiring.”

With inclement weather conditions expected over the next few days, Big Bear Mountain Resorts is asking guests to check the website, social media pages and mobile updates daily for the latest conditions and news. Snow Summit’s night sessions are cancelled until further notice, operating hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and regular season rates are in effect until Dec. 24.

All three routes into Big Bear are open with no chains required. All vehicles must always carry chains when traveling in the mountains during winter months. For an update on weather and snow conditions, please visit www.bigbearmountainresorts.com.

It’s Almost Snow Time! Big Bear Mountain Resorts Gears Up for the 2010-2011 Winter Season

(Big Bear Lake, Calif – November 4, 2010) – With the Southern California weather cooling and winter just around the corner, today Big Bear Mountain Resorts announces $1.7 million in improvements and features for the 2010-2011 ski/snowboard season. From new Skill Builder Parks ™ to $500,000 in new snowmaking equipment, Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are gearing up for another incredible winter season and are excited to introduce the following amenities and improvements:

Skill Builder Parks™ at Bear Mountain
By popular demand, this season Bear Mountain introduces new Skill Builder Parks™. Designed for beginning terrain park skiers and snowboarders, these areas offer snow features, rails, boxes and transitions to help guests test their skills and bring their skiing and riding to the next level in a comfortable, pressure-free environment. Each feature has a do-it-yourself instructional sign, offering a trick description and tips on getting started, polishing skills and even ski and snowboarding etiquette.

“We’re excited to introduce Skill Builder Parks at Bear Mountain this season,” said Chris Riddle, marketing director for BBMR. “As Southern California’s learn to ski and ride headquarters, we listen to our guests and are constantly looking for ways to improve our parks and stay on the forefront of the industry. These new ‘parks within the Park’ are designed for beginning terrain park skiers and riders as a place to learn and improve their skills in a relaxed setting. We know this is something our guests are excited about and we’re just as excited to debut them this season.”

Senior Ticket Rate – For the first time ever, BBMR is introducing a special Senior ticket rate for guests 62 and older, an average savings of 20 percent per ticket. For the full 2010-2011 ticket rate schedule visit www.bigbearmountainresorts.com.

Learning Center & Board Room Remodels – Renting just got easier! Snow Summit has made improvements to its rental shop this season, so guests can spend less time in line and more time on the slopes. Bear Mountain has also remodeled its learning center and combined snowboard and ski rentals in one central location, this way families and friends who are enjoying the day together but may not necessarily all ski or all board can still rent their equipment in the same building.

Run Improvements & Snowmaking – BBMR’s fanatical commitment to snowmaking and nearly unlimited supply of water from Big Bear Lake means guests can expect reliable quality snow conditions every day of the season, regardless of natural snowfall. Simply put, Big Bear Mountain Resorts offers more and better snow throughout the season than any other resort in Southern California. New for 2010-2011, Bear Mountain has purchased two new snowcats for faster, better trail and park grooming. In addition, $500,000 in new fan guns have been added at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. With expanded fan gun electrical distribution to several additional runs, both areas will be able to make more snow in a shorter period of time than ever before.

Daily Snow Reports – Now you can enjoy daily snow reports in the palm of your hand! From your cell phone, text the word SNOW to 52406 to receive on-demand powder alerts and regular updates from Big Bear Mountain Resorts.
