HEAD TO SNOW SUMMIT & BEAR MOUNTAIN FOR 4-7 INCHES OF FRESH SNOW WITH EXCELLENT CONDITIONS AND OPEN ROADS

Get Ready to Ring in the New Year with Annual Torchlight Parade and So Cal’s Coolest New Year’s Eve Parties
(Big Bear Lake – December 29, 2010) – It’s a classic mid-winter holiday week at Big Bear Mountain Resorts! With 4-7 inches of fresh snowfall and single digit overnight temps forecast for the next several nights, snowmaking conditions are as good as they get, making it the perfect time for a ski/snowboard getaway. This Friday night, everyone is invited to join the coolest New Year’s Eve parties in Southern California and head up to Snow Summit to watch the annual Torchlight Parade.
The roads to Big Bear are open! We recommend using Hwy 38 (through Redlands) or Hwy 18 (the back way through Lucerne Valley). As of Wednesday afternoon, chains are required on Hwy 38 and Hwy 18 on all vehicles except 4WD and AWD with snow tires. Hwy 330 is closed below Running Springs. There is a detour through Lake Arrowhead; however this route is much longer and not recommended. All vehicles must always carry chains when traveling in the mountains during winter months.
“The recent storms and fantastic snowmaking have made for excellent mid-winter conditions this holiday week,” said Chris Riddle, marketing director for Big Bear Mountain Resorts. “We’ve received 4-7 inches of new snowfall today and with the forecasted cold temperatures for the rest of the week, we’re looking at some perfect powder and packed powder conditions. It’s the ideal time to get out of town and ring in the New Year on the slopes.”
A tradition for the last 55 years, the annual Torchlight Parade features BBMR staff carrying torches as they ski/snowboard down Log Chute run at Snow Summit, lighting up the night sky. The incredible show is visible from across Big Bear Lake. Make sure to be at your viewing spot by 7 p.m.

After the parade, it’s party time! Snow Summit’s NYE celebration starts immediately after the torchlight parade and features DJ Desi (adults 21 and over. $10 cover charge). Bear Mountain’s New Year’s Eve celebration starts at 9 p.m. and features DJ George (adults 21 and over. $25 cover charge).

Both parties will offer cocktails, drink specials and hors d’ oeuvres.
