Road Conditions

3 Ways to Big Bear - Highway 330/18 from San Bernardino through Running Springs ("Front Way") is the shortest and most direct route. Highway 38 from Redlands ("Back Way") is the best route when leaving the Valley on weekends and holidays. Highway 18 from Lucerne Valley ("Desert Way") is best in snowy weather.

Hwy. 330 / 18 (Running Springs): While this El Nino winter has been very good to the mountains leaving record snowfalls and excellent spring conditions, the moisture has caused road damage on lower Hwy 330. Hwy 330 is closed for construction for several weeks. Please use alternate routes Hwy 38 from Redlands or Hwy 18 through Lucerne Valley. These routes are OPEN with no restrictions. Those traveling from the Valley may use Hwy 210 and exit Waterman-Hwy 18. Although now is a great time to become familiar with the less congested and most scenic route Hwy 38.
Hwy. 38 (Redlands): OPEN with no restrictions.Less Traveled
Hwy. 18 (Lucerne Valley): OPEN with no restrictions.Least Traveled

All vehicles including 4-wheel and All-wheel drives must always carry chains when traveling to the mountains during winter months.
